Financial media is undergoing a generational tectonic shift.

I cut my teeth on CNBC. The scrolling ticker, Maria on the floor covering the close, this was part of my post college graduation education. I was working third shift at the time, sharing an apartment in 1999 with two of my best friends and I would stay up after getting off work just to watch the opening bell.

Times have changed.

The only time I watch CNBC now is when Bloomberg is not available for whatever reason which is very rare. Fox Business? Only if I was physically restrained and gagged. Over time you migrate to what you prefer and you tend to stick with it.

I prefer Bloomberg because of the “data” focused content, but I will also admit I prefer reading the content. The TV feed in the bottom right hand corner of my Fidelity Active Trader Pro remains on mute most of the day. I can always enlarge the feed and unmute if I see something “breaking”.

Podcasts and You Tube proliferation has allowed the finance junkie like myself to bring the content directly to them. I watch what I want to watch. I listen to what I want to listen to. Most importantly…I am able to do it on my timeline.

I walked away from formal work in 2021, but the barrage of emails and newsletters and queued up podcasts fill any gaps in the day very nicely. I enjoy it.

So the purpose of this brief post is to share where I am in terms of curated content and what I personally recommend if you are interested in bringing the content to you.

THE COMPOUND

I have always been a fan of Barry Ritholtz. His blog “The Big Picture” and “Sunday Reads” is what originally inspired me to ultimately do the same in 2015. It amazes me how he still cranks out content. Downtown Josh Brown, whose unfiltered opinion I appreciated when I did tune into CNBC is the CEO of Barry’s firm.

With now well over 100K subscribers, their YouTube channel is a must visit and a glimpse into the future of financial media.

RISKREVERSAL MEDIA

This one is relatively new, but they are moving fast and I appreciate their daily takes. More CNBC regulars, Guy Adami and Dan Nathan and The Big Short’s Danny Moses. If that wasn’t enough add SoFi’s Liz Young and you have a very dynamic, very entertaining, but also very relevant offering.

Simply put, they are onto something big, I think they know it, and it will grow like crazy from here.

THE MARKET HUDDLE

This one is my Saturday afternoon go to. When I finish the weekend WSJ and migrate to the back deck on Saturday, I am usually ready for a more laid back pace and this one fits the bill. Canadians Patrick Ceresna and Kevin Meir have fantastic interviews and Patrick will “talk charts” before they each put some “skin in the game” in the form of a friendly bet. Great way to end to week.

I will stop there for now, if you are not familiar with any of the above, consider taking a look.

The future of financial media delivery is here and you will not see it on your living room TV.

Instead…you will decide the who, the when, the where and the how and you might even become a better trader and/or investor because of it.

Perspective is priceless.
